KSD

The Korea Securities Depository (KSD) is in charge of a wide range of securities-related businesses including securities issuance, deposit, settlement, and entitlement processing in its capacity as the central securities depository of . KSD is a statutory entity with public characteristics, held by 68 shareholders as of the end of 2007.

The shareholders consist of securities companies, banks, insurance companies, investment & trust companies, and other financial organizations. The number of participants in the KSD system currently stands at 1,000, mostly financial organizations. KSD is headquartered in Seoul with five branches nationwide.

As KSD’s functions can directly affect financial and securities markets, a set of mechanisms are in place to guarantee the fairness and transparency of the businesses of KSD. KSD is under the supervision of such regulatory bodies as Planning and Finance Ministry, Financial Supervisory Commission, and Financial Supervisory Service.
